Whenever I see a picnic bench, a few memories come to mind. Cookouts with the family on Memorial Day weekend, having a celebratory lunch with friends after we ventured into a bat-filled cave for a university science course, and happily shooting the breeze with Jennifer and Brian at a park back in California. 

Perhaps the most pivotal “picnic bench” memory however, happened one day during one of my family’s “National Park” excursions across stateside. (Random fact: I have been to 43 of the 50 states in the U.S.) We were at a National Park in South Dakota, and when we entered the parking lot, lo and behold, there was a buffalo, lounging on top of a picnic bench. Now that’s really  random, right? Well, of course as a little kid, I squealed in delight. That image of the buffalo just hanging out on top of the picnic bench became engrained in my mind. The rest of the return home involved my dad getting me a buffalo keychain and a huge stuffed animal buffalo to accompany me.

So I guess you can deduct that seeing a picnic bench for some reason brings the inner kid out of me. The object itself is simple and purposeful. Heck, I mean, even that buffalo thought so.

P.S. For those of you wondering, I got the antique lunch satchel at the Vintage Fair here in the city. If you live in my vicinity, the Vintage Fair is a must see. It pretty much emulates antique, treasure trove galore. And yes, I'm sure to my lovely followers, the dress I am dolled up in looks familiar. That is because I own its black doppelgänger and wore it in a past post. I am sure we have all fallen victim to buying multiple colors of the same thing that we really fancy, right?
