Sometimes my most favorite time of the day on the weekend is when daylight has just finished making her grand entrance. There is a stark beauty when sky meets earth with no darkness in between and all evening shadows have faded. It is a treat for my boyfriend and I to sit down at a local coffee house on such serene mornings. Beignets and hot tea serve as concession snacks as we survey humanity awaking from its late night slumber. The cinematic noise is provided by the grinding of coffee beans, the quiet chatter of those who find refuge in their novels and newspapers, and the occasional automobile moving across the glowing street. All from the front row view of a sidewalk café. This café au lait prelude always brings a smile to my face, as my boyfriend and I arm in arm prepare for the rest of the day's show to continue.
